Hockey Sin Bin Management System

At SuperHouse Automation we love it when our fans share their own projects with us. Ben Lennard from Lennard Electronics recently got in touch and shared his great project. Using four Freetronics dot matrix displays, Ben has built a sin bin management display for the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington. Whilst the system is used to display the time and various advertisements, the primary use is to keep track of how long different players have been in the sin bin.

The displays

Ben’s project uses four DMD’s which are chained together and controlled by an Arduino Uno. The Uno receives commands from a Raspberry Pi powered touchscreen controller box, via a Bluetooth link. The outdoor display is housed in a custom built fiber glass case, which has special vents built into it to allow air to flow in and out whilst still keeping dust and water out. Thanks Ben for sharing!

Project Showcase: Pool Temperature Monitor

At SuperHouse we love to see the projects other makers are working on.  This week we would like to give a big shout out to Keiran who seems to be making great progress learning Arduino. Keiran has built his own pool temperature monitor! You can read more about the temperature monitor, and share your own creations over on the Freetronics forum.

Keiran’s Automation System

At SuperHouse we take great joy in seeing the amazing projects that our followers put together. We are starting a new “project showcase” blog segment, not only so we can see all the cool projects that our followers create but also so that we can share these awesome projects with the rest of the world, and use them to inspire others to make their own projects!

Our first showcase project is from Keiran who has started building his own home automation system. Keiran currently uses his system to control the fountains and lights in his pool and some of the lights in his house. He also has been working on using MQTT to interact between Arduino and Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi. Keiran has lots of ideas to keep adding to his system including motion activated lights and a power monitoring system.  If you want to find out more about Keiran’s project you can read about his progress on the Freetronics forum.
