Description

Plug any common 6-24Vdc power supply into your Raspberry Pi, and stop messing around trying to find a 5V regulated USB charger that can deliver enough power.

I designed this board because I was sick of searching for 5V power supplies, and also because I wanted to run a Raspberry Pi 3B+ using Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) with a simple 12V passive injector.

The board provides 3 methods of supplying power:

  1. A 2.1mm DC jack, just like you find on typical Arduino boards. Dirt common, plug in a 6 to 24Vdc power supply and you’re good to go.
  2. Screw terminals. Sometimes you just want to connect power wires directly.
  3. Passive PoE. The header picks up 2 of the pins in the PoE header on the 3B+ and 4 models, allowing you to use a simple passive PoE Injector.

The onboard switch mode voltage regulator is rated to 3A.

The PoE header is isolated using a pair of cut-track jumpers, so to use PoE you will need to put solder bridges across the jumpers. There are also diodes in series with the PoE line to protect your Ethernet switch in the nasty situation where you plug in an external power supply to the DC jack, and have the Ethernet connected to a switch that doesn’t have a passive PoE injector. Don’t ask me how I discovered that problem 😉

There’s also a prototyping area with GND, 5V, and 3.3V rails, and an I2C header. The I2C header is formatted to match the common little 0.91″ 128×32 OLED modules, so you can put a local display on your Raspberry Pi project.
